A streamlined and affordable way to become a teacher

Western Oregon University (WOU) and Clatsop Community College have worked together to develop a smooth pathway to earning a B.S. in Education and becoming a teacher. All of our secondary and K-12 teacher education pathways allow you to earn your degree and become a licensed teacher in as little as four years. Join the Degree Partnership Program (DPP) to enjoy the flexibility of being able to take courses through both Clatsop and WOU as early as your Freshman year.

Degree Timeline

Because each type of teacher preparation has different course requirements, we recommend scheduling an advising appointment with a WOU advisor your first term at Clatsop to determine the most essential courses to complete your Freshman year, and determine the ideal time for transferring and/or joining the Degree Partnership Program.

Year 1 through Clatsop

  1. If you’re not a Clatsop student already, apply for admission.

  2. Decide what subject you want to teach and complete year 1 coursework.  Each specific type of teacher preparation will have unique course requirements, however, here are some Clatsop courses that all future teachers will need: WR121, WR122, HPE295, COM111, and PSY215 or PSY201.

  3. Meet with a Clatsop Education Advisor (Amy Magnussen or Celeste Petersen) to develop an education plan and steps for transferring.

    Celeste Petersen

Schedule an Appointment with Celeste Petersen

  4. Meet with our WOU pre-education advisor as soon as possible, (recommended no later than your first term). The classes needed to complete your secondary or K-12 teacher preparation are highly dependent on your concentration, so please start the planning process as soon as possible.
