Education: Undergraduate Teacher Licensure Program
Our undergraduate teacher training program prepares you to be a teacher in Pre-K-12 classrooms. Graduates leave the four-year program with a bachelor’s degree and an Oregon teaching license. Students have the flexibility of starting their teacher preparation as a freshman at WOU or starting at a community college, and then transferring to WOU. We also have a flexible pathway for future Elementary Teachers who want to get their teaching license in an evening/weekend/online format.

Coursework
During your first three years, you’ll complete required general education, teaching content courses, and pre-education courses. During your final year, you’ll complete the Professional Licensure Program.
Year 1
In your first year, you’ll build a strong liberal arts foundation, begin taking classes related to your concentration and take an initial class on the foundations of education.
Years 2 & 3
Coursework during your second and third years will include additional general education courses, advanced courses in your concentration area and classes on curriculum design, the practice of teaching, and meeting the needs of diverse learners.
Year 4
Professional Licensure Program
The Professional Licensure Program takes three, full-time terms to complete. You’ll meet regularly on campus with your cohort group for upper-level courses on pedagogy and classroom management. You’ll also be completing a full year of student teaching in a local public school.
Cohort groups begin fall and winter terms. You are encouraged to work closely with our pre-education advisor to stay on track and up-to-date with the entrance requirements and application deadlines.
