Winter Break 2024

5pm December 13 through Noon January 5

Important information regarding Winter Break:

 

  • All Residence Halls will close for the break at 5:00pm, Friday, DEC 13, 2024.
  • The RSC will be OPEN limited hours: 1-5pm on December 16th – 21st, 23rd, 27th, 28th, 30th & January 2nd – 4th.
  • All Residence Halls will RE-OPEN at Noon on Sunday, JAN 5, 2025.
  • Valsetz Dining Hall will close at 2:00pm, Friday, DEC 13th and there will be no regular meal service during the break. Valsetz will reopen Sunday, January 5th 2025 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm and the C-Store will open 3:00pm – 7:00pm.
  • ALL Students planning to stay for any part of the break – this includes leaving late or returning early – must complete the Winter Break Stayover form by 4:00pm, Tuesday, December 10th.
  • With the exception of Arbor Park residents, students staying for the break may be consolidated into one location. Specific hall TBD. Student accounts will be charged $250 to stay for any portion of the break. 
  • ALL CAMPUS WILL BE CLOSED: December 24th through January 1st.  No mail delivery during this closure.

Staying On Campus for Winter Break?

If you plan to Leave Late, Return Early or stay the Entire break
you MUST sign up by 4:00pm, Tuesday, DEC 10th.

Sign up available starting December 2nd on you Housing Overview. 

  • If you will not be living on campus Winter term or you are withdrawing from WOU, you will not be eligible to sign up for Winter Break.
  • Your student account will be charged $250 for Winter Break Accommodations. (No fee for Arbor Park residents).
  • Students will be consolidated into one building for the duration of the break. (Arbor Park stayovers will not be consolidated).
  • The RSC will be open limited hours during the break, 1-5pm December 16th-21st, 23rd, 27th, 28th, 30th & January 2nd-4th.
  • Campus Dining is closed during the break.  There will be no food service on campus until 4pm January 5th, 2025.

Leaving campus for the break?

You do not need to complete any forms. Just take with you the items you will need for the break, the rest of your belongings can stay as you will return to your same room. You will also keep your room keys, just don’t forget to bring them back when you return.

You must leave by 5pm Friday December 13th or 24 hours after your last final- whichever comes first. You may return starting at Noon on Sunday January 5th.

Get Your Room Winter Break Ready

Before you leave:

  • Unplug everything
  • Empty, clean and unplug your microfridge and prop open the door before you plan to leave.  Place a towel under the door to catch the melting water.
  • Arbor Park residents- you do not need to unplug your big kitchen fridge, just be sure your kitchen is left clean before you leave.
  • Close and lock windows
  • Remove all perishable foods and any and all personal belongings from the bathrooms or other common areas.
  • Empty and remove ALL trash/recycling (Charges may apply if trash is left behind)
  • Set your heater to the 1st setting.
  • Report any maintenance issues with a work order.
  • Turn off lights and lock your door.
  • You DO NOT need to take everything home with you for the break as you will return to the same room. Only take with you what you will need for the break.
  • IF YOU HAVE A VACANCY IN YOUR ROOM/APARTMENT: You should expect a new roommate. The space should be left clean & inviting. All furniture is positioned in a welcoming manner. The vacant space should not have anything in or on the furniture. If your space is not CLEAN & READY for a new roommate, you will be charged a higher room rate.

ALL rooms will be inspected for compliance.  Residential violations will be documented and you will be charged accordingly.

Need To Move Out?

If you find that you will not be returning for winter term, you will need to contact the Housing Office to request a petition to move out.  Email housing@wou.edu as soon as possible for further checkout instructions. Cancellation fees may apply.  Improper checkout fee: $150.

End of Term checkouts must be completed by 5pm Friday December 13th.
Over Winter Break if you find that you need to move out, please email us at housing@wou.edu as soon as possible for further instructions.

Important Dates

Nov 27th – Room Changes complete.

Dec 10th by 4 PM- Deadline to complete the Winter Break Stayover form.

Dec 12th & 13th – Students staying on campus over winter break will move to Winter Break accommodations (with the exception of Arbor Park).

Dec 13th by 5 PM – Deadline to email Housing Office (housing@wou.edu) to change your room into a super-single if you are in a Double by yourself (additional charges apply).

Dec 13th at 2 PM – Valsetz closes for Winter Break.

Dec 13th at 5 PM – Residence Halls Close.

Dec 24th through Jan 1st – WOU Campus Closed.

Jan 2nd at Noon – Deadline to change your winter term meal plan.

Jan 5th – Halls open at Noon; Valsetz will open at 4pm 

Jan 6th – Winter term classes begin!
