Division of Health & Exercise Science appoints Dr. Daniel Dowhower to faculty

The Division of Health & Exercise Science is pleased to welcome Dr. Daniel Dowhower to its faculty this fall. Dr. Dowhower, who has a doctorate in public health from Oregon State University, will be teaching undergraduate health courses this fall.

Dr. Dowhower said he was honored to be hired by the College of Education.

“WOU is quite a special place not only for the students but for the employees too. I have felt so welcomed and supported since arriving and that experience has been consistent across the entire campus,” he said.

Dr. Dowhower, who was an instructor at Oregon State University before he was hired at WOU, also has a masters in public health from the Corvallis-based university and a masters in industrial/organizational psychology from Illinois Institute of Technology.

Dr. Dowhower’s past research has focused on understanding the effects of stigma and discrimination on safer sex practices and the challenges faced by long-term survivors of HIV, particularly in later life. Dr. Dowhower added that he is also interested in the health and well-being of the LGBTQ population.
