Top 10 Ways to Make Financial Aid Work for You

  1. Apply for FAFSA as close to the opening date (Oct. 1) as possible. 
  2. Accept your aid promptly through your WOU portal.
  3. Be sure to tell us if you will be a less-than-full-time student. Your aid will not disburse until you notify us of your enrollment level.
  4. Student Loan Borrowers: Complete both your Loan Entrance Counseling and your Master Promissory Note at https://studentaid.gov.
  5. Parent Loan Borrowers: Apply for the PLUS loan online at https://studentaid.gov and complete the Master Promissory Note.
  6. If you’ve been awarded Federal Work Study, find a job using Handshake on Wolf Link in your portal.
  7. Be sure to adhere to our Satisfactory Academic Progress policy.
  8. Financial Aid communicates with students via their WOU email, so be sure to check it regularly.
  9. The financial aid checklist is your friend! Follow it closely.
  10. Don’t wait until the last minute to check on the status of your financial aid.
