Graduate Students Bios

Graduate students in the our program are diverse and represent a cross-section of backgrounds and expertise in the area of criminal justice.

Amanda Mooney

Why did I choose WOU? I attended WOU for my BS degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology with minors in forensic psychology and forensic science. I love the personalized education here at WOU and at the recommendation of my professors, chose to enroll in the MACJ and Justice Studies Certificate programs.

Professional Goals: I aim to be a clinical psychologist working within the justice system as a treatment specialist, expert witness, and law enforcement consultant; with a specialization on sexual deviance and violent crime.

Hobbies: Reading, cooking, stress baking, hanging out with friends and family, and spending as much time with animals as possible (I’m a part-time cashier at Petco!).

Josie Smith

Why did I choose WOU? I chose WOU’s Master of Arts in Criminal Justice because I was already here for my undergraduate degree, and I liked the idea of staying with the same professors and peers I had been working with. I was also offered a Graduate Assistant position, which solidified my choice of coming to Western, as it gives me a lot of opportunities I would not have received otherwise.

Professional Goals: Professionally, I hope to work with an agency focused on criminal justice reform. I am not sure specifically in what area, but hope to gain a better idea throughout my time in this program.

Hobbies: In my free time, I enjoy reading, spending time with friends and family, going to the gym, and spending time outdoors!
