  • An opportunity to be inspired and engaged with interesting topics and discussions across the spectrum of criminal justice.
  • The availability of workshop and networking events to help you prepare for the Criminal Justice Career Fair, practicum, and finding employment after graduation. 
  • A chance to meet WOU professors and learn about their backgrounds, research and projects. 
  • A space to learn more about the criminal justice and cybercrime investigation and enforcement programs at WOU.

Monday, February 21st

9AM- 10AM:
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER AT A WOMEN’S PRISON

Meet Stefanie O’Brien, a sign language interpreter at a women’s prison with over 15 years of prior law enforcement experience. Professor Moreno will be interviewing and moderating questions about her experience with language interpretation, being a female in criminal justice, working in corrections and her time as an officer. 11AM- 12PM:
PREPARING FOR HIRING IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE

This panel will chat about how they go about the hiring process, what background checks are like, and how to prepare for interviews and oral boards. (RECORDING COMING SOON)

COFFEE CHAT HIGHLIGHTING PERSONAL RESILIENCY IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE

This group will have a laid back approach of Q&A. Speakers will draw from a question bouquet about physical and mental health, trauma coping, effects of CJ on family/friends/marriage/relationships, strategies and tips for longevity in CJ, etc and answer them, the group can contribute with more information and discussion as needed. HOMAGE TO “HOT-ONES” WITH PROFESSOR MORENO

Join Jenny Moreno and graduate student Shelby Moody from the Criminal Justice Sciences Division while they dive into some spicy hot-wings and chat about CJ. Jenny will answer juicy questions about her former life as a police officer, being married to a police officer and give some unfiltered advice about law school and surviving in criminal justice. Catch up with WOU Alumna Jamie Fallowfield who will be joining all the way from Washington DC in her current FBI assignment and meet James Bents the newest faculty member of the Criminal Justice Sciences Division, retired FBI with an illustrious 20+ year career in law enforcement. Jamie and James will be chatting about their professional experiences, educational paths, and sharing insights about how students can make their way from WOU to Quantico.  (ZOOM LINK)

ASK ME ANYTHING ABOUT FORENSIC ANTHROPOLOGY!

Jerielle Cartales from the Criminal Justice Sciences Division has a long-standing fascination with bones, as evidenced by the (animal) skeletal collection in her home as well as the decomposition lab she maintains. Jerielle will talk about forensic anthropology and tell you about digging up bones, skeletal identification and all the cool things that forensic anthropologists do in the criminal justice system.
