The Center for Professional Pathways prides itself on helping students achieve career readiness through one-on-one coaching, hosting a variety of fairs and networking events, and providing experiential learning opportunities in an effort to help students succeed. Whether you are looking for help building your resume, for advice on graduate schools, or simply want to get involved on campus, the CPP is here to help you establish and develop strong professional skills. A large part of our office’s resources go towards helping students find suitable jobs. Our Wolflink program keeps track of all the opportunities available to Alumni and Students. There are hundreds of jobs available from student work study jobs to post-graduate careers added to Handshake (another name for WolfLink) every year. Every day, we are sent new jobs by employers to post and many employers post jobs individually; keep an eye out throughout the year! The majority of student jobs available on Wolflink are located in Salem, Dallas, Corvallis, Monmouth, and Independence.

If you have applied for a large amount of jobs and are not hearing back from employers, there may be a problem with some of the fundamental skills necessary for acquiring an interview. One of the first areas to refine would be your resume. At the Center for Professional Development, we have qualified Peer Career Advisers that can review your resume and cover letter, or even refer you to one of our specialized staff. Mistakes on a cover letter or resume are often the reason students have difficulty finding jobs. We also offer Mock Interviews for students who have strong resume skills but lack the skills or are nervous for an interview. Absolutely! The Center for Professional Pathways has multiple kinds of Resume and Cover Letter reviews available for Students and Alumni! If you are looking for a general Resume Review, you can Set Up Appointment via Handshake on your Western Oregon Portal (also known as WolfLink). Drop In Hours are Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm. Stop by for more information! If you are looking for a more in depth look at or require a specialized resume, Jennifer Hansen offers Advanced Resume and Cover Letter reviews. Advanced Reviews are made by appointment only, so make sure to access Handshake to schedule and appointment with her!

Otherwise, appointments are make through Handshake, which appears as WolfLink in the Western Oregon University Portal. From there, go to the Appointments section and set up your appointment! If you are having difficulties setting up an appointment, stop by the Center for Professional Pathways or email the PCAs at pathways@wou.edu for assistance.

Work study funds are allocated to students who are eligible for the Work Study Program, and can only be accessed through a work study job. Instead of a typical salary from employers, students are instead paid through Work study funds. These positions are competitive. Typically found on Wolflink, these jobs fill up quickly. If you are wondering why you do not have work study or have any questions regarding the distribution of work study, please call the Financial Aid office at  1-877-877-1593.
