Welcome New Faculty Member, Carlos Obed Texidor Maldonado

Dr. Carlos Obed Texidor Maldonado is a new professor in the Rehabilitation and Counseling Department.

Dr. Texidor Maldonado comes to WOU with an impressive background and a wealth of experience in Rehabilitation and Counseling. He has been providing behavioral health services for 24 years. 

Dr. Texidor Maldonado is from Caguas, Puerto Rico. He identifies as Boricua (Afro-Caribbean and Taíno heritage). In his early childhood, he moved to the South Bronx in New York, where he experienced rich diversity. Dr. Texidor Maldonado had a challenging background. He experienced the loss of three significant male figures in his life. In his teens, his family moved to Salem, Oregon. Due to the losses and feeling culturally displaced, Dr. Texidor Maldonado gravitated toward gang and drug cultures. 

Consequently, he was sentenced to seven and a half years with the Oregon Department of Corrections. However, while in prison, he began his career in counseling. He commenced his career providing treatment services for individuals within the Department of Corrections. Through the years, Dr. Texidor Maldonado has worked with diverse populations in both outpatient and inpatient levels of care (for SUD, Gambling Disorder, and Co-Occurring Disorders).

Dr. Texidor Maldonado is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor III and a Certified Gambling Addiction Counselor II through the Mental Health Addiction Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO). Carlos is also a Licensed Professional Counselor through the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists (OBPLCT). He is a Master Addiction Counselor through the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors. Lastly, he is a National Certified Counselor and Approved Clinical Supervisor through the National Board of Certified Counselors.

Dr. Texidor Maldonado completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology: Family Studies, a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health, and a Master of Business Administration at Corban University. Dr. Texidor Maldonado completed the Counselor Education and Supervision doctoral program at Oregon State University in December 2023. Dr. Texidor Maldonado conducted a corpus linguistic study of manualized treatment approaches and the academic discourse on recidivism.

In his new position as a professor, Dr. Texidor Maldonado’s goal is to support upcoming counselors. He is most looking forward to continuing to learn about rehabilitation and counseling.
