Mark Henkels came to Western in 1988 to help start the public policy and administration program. Since that time he has expanded his teaching and advising to include political science and legal studies. He is the guy to see for political and administrative internships and for pre-law advising. His teaching interests center on American public policy, but he also regularly teaches the following courses: Policy Dimensions of the Aging Society, Environmental Values and Political Action, Introduction to Administrative Law, Introduction to Policy Analysis, and Democracy: Theory and Practice.
Dr. Henkels has an ongoing research interest in state politics, particularly Oregon state government. He also presents regularly on the challenges and opportunities created for the aging of our society. He strongly believes that a modern society needs a capable and ethical public service.
