Emergency Student Aid

Emergency Student Aid Overview

Emergency Student Aid offers WOU students in crisis an opportunity to receive a one-time financial support that may help with housing, utilities, food, child care, transportation, medical care, course material, and other life essentials. Aid is available in both grants and loans, and all are intended to be awarded once per year per student. Review the funds and eligibility information section below prior to submitting an application. To submit an application, complete all fields in the emergency student aid application section below. Applications are reviewed by a committee, who determines eligibility and aid amount. Aid amounts vary and are under the discretion of the committee.

Funds and Eligibility Information

Emergency Student Aid Fund:

  • Grant, repayment suggested-not required.

James Gregory Daniels Memorial Trust Fund:

  • Grant, repayment suggested-not required.

    Cancer Support Student Aid Fund:

    • Grant, repayment not required.
    • Intended to support need in response to cancer, either student personally or family member with cancer. Can be used for travel, medical expenses, or other support related to cancer.

    Virginia Burton Loan Fund:

    • Loan to be repaid, interest free.

    Complete all fields below and provide detailed information of your emergency. All information provided is confidential and for internal use by the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and WOU Foundation. Your WOU V# will be used to verify information you have provided. All requests are subject to availability of funds and eligibility criteria met. 

    Please allow up to two (2) weeks for an application to be reviewed. A committee member may reach out to you if additional information is needed. Approved or disapproved applications will be notified via email. Please allow up to two (2) weeks for approved aid to be processed. Aid is provided in a check made payable to the student. Emergency Student Aid is a one-time resource to assist in unexpected, eligible emergencies and financial hardships.

      • How much do you pay for commuting per month (e.g., vehicle fuel, vehicle maintenance)?
      • How much do you pay for insurance per month (e.g., vehicle insurance, rental insurance, home owners insurance)?
      • How much do you pay for food per month (e.g., groceries)?
      • How much do you pay for child care per month?
      • How much do you pay for entertainment and recreation per month (e.g., streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, etc.), gym, events, etc)?

        By submitting this emergency student aid request, you certify the information you have provided is true, accurate, and correct to the best of your knowledge. You further understand that any false information or statements may result in a denied application.

      Western Oregon University’s Land Acknowledgement
      Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR is located within the traditional homelands of the Luckiamute Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya etc. Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Today, living descendants of these people are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
