Fight Hunger Games
About
The annual Governor’s State Employees Food Drive takes place each March. In 2026, Student Engagement launched the WOU Fight Hunger Games (FHG) to increase their support of the food drive. The FHG is a 12-hour long, casual gaming event that takes place in the Werner University Center (WUC). The event is open to the public. The cost of admission is a food donation of any size. Students may attend without making a food donation but are strongly encouraged to do so.
The WOU FHG is held the first Saturday in March. The planned time for the event is 9am to 9pm but this may vary by year. There will be at least 50 current and retro video game stations and over 100 board and card games to choose from. Some of the features of the event include Magic the Gathering, Pokémon and Disney’s Lorcana card gaming, a board game library, a D&D room for “Bring Your Own D&D”, and tournaments for Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart. Some clubs will host mini-gaming sessions like Loteria in the Willamette Room. There will be a 16-player Halo 2 system link on original Xbox consoles, and stations for Rock Band, Just Dance and Donkey Konga.
Some activities being discussed for the next event include a children’s play area, a Cosplay Catwalk (or Contest), a Cosplay Café, and a Cosplay Ball after the event that is for WOU students only.
In addition, there will be a donation drawing to raise additional funds, and each $1 raised will count as one pound of food toward our goal of 4,000 pounds! Additional financial donations may be made in cash or check, or with a credit card through the WOU Foundation fundraising page.
In its first year. The WOU Fight Hunger Games collected 1,272 pounds of food (over 80% of the food collected by WOU during the Governor’s Food Drive) and $200 in monetary donations (almost 10% of all funds raised).
