              WOU Chemistry Program

              WOU offers a comprehensive undergraduate program in Chemistry that will prepare you to enter a competitive job market or advanced training through professional and graduate programs. Within the Chemistry Department at Western Oregon University, students are not just a number in a crowded classroom. Students in our programs have ready access to highly supportive faculty and staff. We have a welcoming atmosphere that encourages student-to-student interactions, we offer many unique and engaging courses in specialized fields such as forensic science, materials chemistry, and medicinal chemistry & pharmacology. Students can expect to receive hands-on instrumentation training, mentored research opportunities within our state of the art laboratory facilities housed in the DeVolder Family Science Center that has been built to LEED silver standards.  To help students excel in chemistry, we offer three major chemistry concentrations that lead to a:

              B.S. Degree in Chemistry

              They all start with a standard set of

              • Core Courses

              and then students choose one of the Concentrations below:  

              • Traditional Chemistry

              • Forensic Chemistry

              • Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacology (Pre-Professional Concentration)

              WOU also offers a
              • B.S. Degree in Education – Chemistry Teacher Education Option

                if you are interested in teaching high school chemistry and physics.

               

              The Chemistry Department also offers several

              Minor Degree Options:

              Western Oregon University’s Land Acknowledgement
              Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR is located within the traditional homelands of the Luckiamute Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya etc. Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Today, living descendants of these people are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
