WOU recognizes Transfer Degrees from Oregon Community Colleges, California, and other out of state degrees. An approved transfer degree will meet WOU’s General Education requirements. This will allow the transfer student to then work on their intended major.
WOU advises that if you have earned an approved transfer degree, that you begin your process with a faculty advisor in the department you are majoring in. You can find a list of approved faculty advisors here. If however, you have not earned a transfer degree, we advise you begin your process in the SSA with a general advisor. They then can review your transfer transcripts and go over the general education requirements with you.
You can always contact our office at advising@wou.edu to find an advisor in your intended major.
Consider a Bachelor of Applied Science degree which offers a relevant and streamlined path to a 4-year degree for AAS degree holders.
The BAS degree includes a modified general education track that is designed to meet the needs of working adults who seek to more directly connect their professional experience with their course work. The major requirements for the BAS degree are the same as for the traditional four-year major, and with careful planning the BAS degree can be completed in 90 credits or less (the equivalent of two years of full-time course work).
WOU operates under an advising model that is reliant on faculty advisors in each specific program/department. It is because of this that knowing who your academic advisor is when you arrive at WOU might be different for every student based on what you want to major in. SSA is always a good starting spot though because if you are not already assigned a major advisor when you arrive, we can connect you with department representatives to ensure you get an assigned advisor to help you along your academic journey!
