Undergraduate Admission Requirements

The following admission criteria apply to all applicants seeking undergraduate admission. Requirements vary depending on the type of applicant:

First-Year Academic Requirements

To be considered for admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • High School Diploma: Standard diploma from an accredited high school

  • GPA Requirement: Minimum 2.75 unweighted cumulative GPA

  • Coursework Completion (with a grade of C- or Pass in each subject):

    • Language Arts: 4 years

    • Mathematics: 3 years

    • Science: 3 years

    • Social Science: 3 years

Transfer Student Academic Requirements

To qualify for transfer admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Standing: Be in good academic, financial, and disciplinary standing at all previously attended institutions

  • Minimum GPA:

    • 2.25 cumulative GPA with at least 36 transferable quarter credits or 24 transferable semester credits

    • OR

    • 2.0 GPA with an AAOT, ASOT, or OTM degree

Non-Degree Seeking Student Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirement:

  • Minimum GPA: 2.75 unweighted cumulative GPA

Application Requirements

To complete your application for admission as an international student, please ensure you submit the following documents:

  • International Student Application: Complete the form with accurate, up-to-date information.

  • Financial Affidavit of Support: Complete and sign this form by hand.

  • Financial Documentation: Provide documents (bank statements, affidavits, or scholarship awards) to verify your financial ability.

  • Official Transcripts: Submit official transcripts from all prior institutions, with certified English translations if applicable.

  • Proof of English Proficiency: Submit evidence of your English proficiency.

  • Copy of Passport ID Page: Provide a clear copy of your passport’s ID page.

English Proficiency Requirement

All non-native English-speaking students applying for undergraduate or graduate admission must provide proof of English proficiency.

English Proficiency Exemptions

Applicants are exempt from the English proficiency testing requirement if any of the following apply:

  • Earned or will earn a bachelor’s degree or higher in an English-speaking country
  • Graduated from a school where English is the language of instruction
  • Is a citizen of an approved English-speaking country
  • Earned or will earn an associate degree or higher from a U.S. institution

English-Speaking Countries & Territories

Applicants who are citizens of the following countries or territories are automatically exempt:

Antigua & Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Canada (except Quebec), Cayman Islands, Dominica, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Liberia, New Zealand, Nigeria, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Singapore, Trinidad & Tobago, United Kingdom, United States

Estimated Undergraduate Costs at WOU: Tuition, Housing, Food, and Fees

 

The estimated costs for undergraduate non-resident students for the 2025-26 academic year (fall, winter, and spring terms) with a full-time course load of 12 credits are as follows:

Note:

  • Tuition rates are subject to change.

  • Room and board costs vary depending on credit load and housing/board choices.

  • A one-time matriculation fee of $365 is assessed to all students.

  • Tuition estimate is based on a full-time status of 12 credits per term for fall, winter, and spring.

Dependents (Spouse or Children) $8,000/year for spouse + $2,000 for health insurance; $8,000/year per child + $2,000/year per child for health insurance Contact the Office of International Education (OIED) if you are interested in bringing a dependent on an F-2 or J-2 visa.

 

Western Oregon University does not have any designated or guaranteed scholarships for international students. However, once admitted, international students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale will automatically receive the Merit Scholarship. The amounts indicated on the site are annual and renewable annually. International students are also eligible to apply for two types of scholarships, General Scholarships and Departmental Scholarships. The application process includes submitting required documents and essays. Evaluation criteria include GPA, awards, extracurriculars, and essay quality. For more information, click here.
