JUDY VANDERBURG

Board Chair

Judy brings over 30 years of connection to SFAS, beginning as a student at WOU and later as a staff member. As an alum and long-time supporter, she offers a valuable student-centered perspective to ensure programming is both accessible and engaging for the campus community.

TIM COWART

Board Member, WOU Dance Representative

Tim is the head of WOU’s Dance Department and a passionate advocate for dance education. He contributes his expertise by helping to identify and select innovative dance companies for the Series, and he values the educational outreach opportunities these performances bring to students.

JOEL GARZA

Board Member, WOU Music Representative

A professor of Music at WOU, Dr. Garza leads the Percussion and Mariachi Ensembles and is an active performer. His knowledge of the music field and strong ties to global music communities enhance the Series’ ability to feature diverse and high-quality performances.

JOE SORCE

Board Member

Joe is a local professional musician and composer. He brings a fresh and informed perspective on contemporary artists, helping the Series stay relevant and responsive to current musical trends.

JIM TAYLOR

Board Member

Jim is a WOU alum, retired choral music educator, and active performer with Male Ensemble Northwest. His extensive experience in both performance and education provides valuable insight into audience engagement and programming decisions.

JESSICA STEED

Program Director

Jessica leads the day-to-day operations of SFAS and brings a lifelong passion for the arts, along with extensive experience in project and volunteer management. Her leadership has strengthened the Series’ operational capacity and deepened its connection to the university and surrounding community. She is currently guiding the Series as it approaches its 50th season.

Western Oregon University’s Land Acknowledgement
Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR is located within the traditional homelands of the Luckiamute Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya etc. Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Today, living descendants of these people are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
