Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science
Please note that starting Fall of 2019 the BA, BS, BFA and BM requirements will be incorporated into the major coursework.
The Bachelor degree requirements vary depending on your major. These requirements are one component of your overall degree. Most majors selected allow you to pick your degree designation, although some require a specific designation. Please consult an academic advisor as to the requirements which fit best with your major.
Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)
Students who complete the university requirements listed below are granted this degree.
- Proficiency through the third term (second semester) of the second year (usually 24 credit hours) of college work, or the equivalent, in a second language. Two years of a second language at any United States accredited institution will satisfy this requirement for transfer students. Transfer students from unaccredited institutions must pass a proficiency examination administered by the WOU modern language department. Native speakers who have attended high school in their own language may not use that language to fulfill this requirement.
- International students whose first language is not English must provide high school or college transcripts as evidence of formal training in the native language and a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 500 (paper based) or a score of at least 61 (internet-based) or a IELTS score of at least 5.0 to the International Students and Scholars Affairs office. International students must also meet all special graduation requirements related to writing intensive course work.
- Minimum of 180 credit hours including 62 upper-division
- Minimum of 2.00 (C) grade point average (GPA) in all work completed at WOU
- Residence: minimum of 45 of the last 60 credit hours completed through WOU
- Credit limitation of a total of 16 hours for each open-ended course set: (199,399) (403) (406, 408) (407) (409)
- Liberal Arts Core Curriculum: completion of 55 credit hours as outlined in the section on Undergraduate Programs
- Academic major: minimum of 36 upper-division credit hours unless otherwise stated
- Academic minor: minimum of 12 upper-division credit hours unless otherwise stated
- Mathematics, computer science, quantitative literacy, cultural diversity and writing intensive requirements as outlined in the Academic Catalog.*
Bachelor of Science (B.S.)
Students who complete the university requirements listed below are granted this degree.
- Minimum of 180 credit hours including 62 upper-division
- Minimum of 2.00 (C) grade point average (GPA) in all work completed at WOU
- Residence: minimum of 45 of the last 60 credit hours completed through WOU
