Leave No Trace
The Outdoor Program provides a common adventurer willing to share experience and educate participants about Leave No Trace principles. Each participant is a common adventurer and is responsible for their own decisions and behavior. Participants are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that is courteous and considerate of the diverse group of individuals that may also be participating in the activity.

Fall 2025
Silver Falls Hike and Photography-

We will depart from the HWC at 9:00am, for Silver Falls State Park. This is a relaxing day hike opportunity to see fall foliage and waterfalls while hiking one of Oregon’s most beautiful trails. A section of the Trail of Ten Falls will offer the best opportunity for photographing the waterfalls this fall. We will park at the South Falls Day-use area and hike from South Falls to Winter Falls where we will turn around or complete our loop along the Rim Trail.

Central Oregon Avalanche Association Presentation
Information: “Know Before You Go” – is a FREE avalanche awareness education program developed to provide the basics of what avalanches look like, how people trigger them, their destructive power and how to recognize avalanche terrain, recognize obvious signs of instability, safe travel practices, the basics of avalanche rescue equipment and self-rescue procedures, and where to obtain information about current avalanche conditions and answer any questions you might have.

Snowshoe Excursion Ray Benson Sno-Park

We will depart from the HWC at 9:00 am for Ray Benson Sno-Park. This is a stimulating day for snowshoeing or hiking. The views of Santiam Pass, Hoodoo butte, Three Finger Jack and Mt. Washington are quite dramatic under snow. Snowshoes will be provided for those interested in snowshoeing. This is a moderately easy 3 mile (round trip) loop.

Whale Watching Depoe Bay

We will depart from the HWC at 9:00 am, for Depoe Bay. This is a fun, relaxing whale watching boat excursion. Be ready to see sea lions, gray whales and much more! Be prepared for a 1.5 hour boat tour.

Rock Climbing at Smith Rock

We will depart from the HWC Friday at 2pm, for Smith Rock. This is a fun, low key rock climbing 3 day adventure. Be ready to climb! Campus Recreation provides all climbing and camping equipment if requested. A pre trip meeting is required held April 22nd at 5pm.

Refund and No-Show Policy
If a participant no-shows on two trips within an academic year, they will be restricted from signing up for another trip that academic year. To avoid being a no-show, please call the Health and Wellness Center 503-838-9530 as soon as possible, if you will not be able to attend a trip.
- If you cancel 2 weeks or more before the trip start date, you will receive a full refund. If you cancel within the two-week window, you may receive a pro-rated refund.
- If we cancel a trip due to weather or low enrollment, we will issue a full refund.

Rental Policies
Our outdoor equipment rental program exists to serve the WOU community. In order to rent equipment individuals must present their current WOU ID Card. Without proof of affiliation with WOU, equipment will not be rented. Equipment may only be rented for 21 days per rental.
Rent and Reserve Equipment
- Equipment may be pre-reserved on DSE here.
- Equipment can be reserved and picked up at the front desk the day of rental. Equipment must be returned during operational hours.
- Failure to return equipment when due will result in extra fees.
- Failure to pick-up pre-reserved equipment by time of reservation may result in the equipment being rented to others as first come first serve.
- Upon check out at the HWC front desk, renter may add additional pieces of equipment if available.
- All other check-out and check-in policies apply.
Payment
- A deposit for 50% of the total cost for the rental will be charged at pick up. The remaining balance will be charged at drop off.
Damage/Replacement Fees
- If the equipment is damaged upon return, the cost of the repairs will be assessed and charged to the renter’s WOU account. If the equipment is irreparable or missing items are not returned the cost of the replacement value of the equipment will be charged to the renter’s WOU account.
- Replacement values may vary upon retail availability/pricing.
- All lost or damaged equipment is subject to a fine.
- It is the responsibility of the individual to ensure they have adequate transportation and in some cases, storage, for the equipment.
- If the equipment is not returned within 7 days of the expected return date the replacement value of the unreturned equipment will be charged to the renter´s WOU account.
- The renter will receive an email notification informing them of any charges.
