Art & Design Education

WOU’s Art & Design Education Concentration is the only 4-year art teaching degree in Oregon. This Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) combines Art & Design and Education coursework, leading directly to teaching licensure. If you’re looking for the perfect way to become an art teacher in K-12 schools, this program is for you!

The Art & Design Education BFA Concentration is a collaboration between WOU’s time-honored College of Education and vibrant Art Department. It serves future K-12 educators by offering the most direct path to an art teaching degree in Oregon.

In this four year bachelor’s degree program, students are fully trained to teach in K-12 classrooms. They also complete studio coursework equivalent to an Art & Design major. The first three years of the program include courses in Art & Design, Education, and general education for a well-rounded college experience. The final year focuses on teacher training, including student teaching. Graduates are prepared to immediately obtain a teaching license and begin teaching art in K-12 schools.

  • Education coursework and hands-on experience, including student teaching placement
  • Teacher education includes courses specifically for teaching art in the K-12 classroom
  • Studio courses in a wide range of art & design media
  • Individual mentoring and small class sizes
