The Sponsored Projects Office Welcomes New Employees

Over the summer the SPO office welcomed two new coworkers.

Paul Dorres is the new Associate Director of Pre-Award Services. He joins us from Oregon State University where he worked with the exchange program. He will be helping the faculty identify funding opportunities and craft competitive proposals!

Tessa Paulsen is the new Grants Administrative Specialist. She is joining us from Portland State University’s Sponsored Projects Office. She is here to help with general support and inquiries.

Kuali System

We have recently begun implementing Kuali, a cloud-based research administration system, for Sponsored Projects at WOU.

Kuali is designed to streamline research administration by providing a centralized, user-friendly platform to manage proposals, awards, budgets, and compliance information.

With Kuali, SPO and faculty/staff will benefit from a simplified and efficient process for developing proposals, tracking budgets, and managing individual awards.

SPO will continue working with Kuali to build a clear and consistent system for maintaining award data. We’re excited to see the dashboard come together and look forward to launching Kuali across campus in the near future

Reminder to PIs/PDs:

Effort certifications were due 9/30. Please certify all effort documentation as soon as possible. If the effort and amounts on the document are not accurate please reach out to SPO.

Website Updates

We are updating our website! We have updated the Staff section to include our new members, we will be updating the FAQs, and will be adding a Newsletter section

In line with our work moving to Kuali some of our forms may be updated or changed in the coming months. Look out every month for a new newsletter where we will share SPO updates, funding opportunities, and stories about the University’s sponsored activities.

If you would like your project to be featured or just want to share with SPO please reach out to our Grants Administrative Specialist: paulsent@wou.edu

Institutional Review Board / Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee Compliance

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) work to ensure that the treatment of human and animal subjects in research complies with all applicable regulations and ethical standards.

If your research project involves human subjects and/or animal subjects, you must contact the IRB and/or IACUC before beginning your project to ensure proper review and approval.
