CAMPUS PUBLIC SAFETY LOST AND FOUND POLICY

All Lost and found property brought into Campus Public Safety shall be inventoried and tagged upon arrival. Persons who find property valued at more than $250 and want to retain their right to claim under ORS 98.005, shall complete a Western Oregon University Property Report.  A receipt shall be issued for the property with the pink copy going to the claimant.  The original form shall be given to the Property or evidence officer. If the claimant returns within 90 days and no rightful owner has claimed the property, the property officer shall release the property to the claimant.

Anyone claiming lost and found property must show reasonable proof that it belongs to them either by proof of purchase, description, etc.  Lost and found property deemed of little to no value shall be disposed of after 30 days. Lost and found property deemed of value shall be sold on campus in an annual public sale.  All proceeds of the sale will go into a Campus Public Safety account to be used for Crime Prevention activities.  All items remaining after the sale will be donated to charity.

Lost property that has been housed for more than one week will be stored for safe keeping and will only be available for retrieval Monday through Friday from 7:30am – 4:30pm.

If you have any questions, please contact the lost and found coordinator, Daniel Lopez, at lopezsolisd@wou.edu.
