Inclement Weather Policy FAQ

  1. What if I am a part-time employee?
    Part-time employees are prorated for the time they work. During their scheduled work day it would be prorated for the hours they work.
  2. How do I submit time off due to inclement weather?
    Unclassified staff should select the Weather Leave option in their web time entry. Classified staff should write in Weather Leave for the day on their paper time sheets. Please note that CLOSED means CLOSED. Employees should not use PTO for university inclement weather closures.
  3. Where do I check for campus closures?
    1. Sign up for WOU alerts through the Portal (Click on the WOU Alert icon across the top).
    2. Check your WOU email
    3. WOU website homepage at wou.edu
  4. At what time will campus closure decisions be made?
    Campus closure decisions will be made no later than 6:30 am.
  5. How will the university announce an exemption (e.g. an event will still occur) to the inclement weather closure policy?
    Exemptions will be announced via the WOU website, WOU email, and WOU alerts.
  6. What happens if a meeting or class is scheduled before the delayed start time?
    If a meeting or class is scheduled to occur before a delayed start, that meeting or class is canceled.
  7. Will Public Safety still be open if the campus is closed?
    Yes, public safety will remain open 24 hours a day regardless of a campus closure.

Western Oregon University’s Land Acknowledgement
Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR is located within the traditional homelands of the Luckiamute Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya etc. Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Today, living descendants of these people are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
