Senior Career Aspirations: I’d like a job dealing with water analysis and purification, or some similar environmentally-relevant field. Surprising Fact: I was raised by technophobes, so I learned to type on a mechanical typewriter, and didn’t have a cell phone until I was 19. Hunter or Gatherer: Gatherer If you could a professor any question, what would it be: It depends heavily on the professor, but in general “how do you feel about the fact that there are administrators on campus who get paid twice your salary to shove pieces of paper around, while desperately trying to avoid any interaction with the students whose interests they’re supposed to be serving?” Inspirational Quote: “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there.” – Lewis Carroll One of your Favorite STEM Profs: Dr. Leban. He has so many interesting stories about his life and career that can help give you a look at what sort of future might be ahead of you. What’s your best study tip for STEM classes: Textbooks in the sciences are mostly useless for studying with the time restraints college classes deal with, especially in math-heavy classes. Go to professors’ office hours to get direct help on anything you don’t understand. How do you deal with the stress of being a STEM major: Poorly. How do you think we could better support STEM majors on campus: Don’t just offer support to freshmen. Senior-year burnout is very real and very painful to work through. |
