Teaching Focus
In addition to introductory classes in poetry and fiction, and surveys in American literature, my seminars include Literature of the American Civil War, American and British Nature Writing, Literature of Rivers, Literature of the Sea, Fishing Across Cultures, Modern and Contemporary Poetry, and Oregon Writers. I also offer focus studies on the writings of Henry David Thoreau, Herman Melville, Emily Dickinson, Ernest Hemingway, Annie Proulx, and Alice Munro.
My writing workshops explore poetry, fiction, literary journalism, and creative nonfiction, with special interests in book reviewing, nature writing, and the memoir.
