Why I chose WOU

I appreciated WOU's emphasis on integrating academic learning with the clinical needs of the community when I coordinated internship placements for the Department of Veterans Affairs. I remain impressed by the quality of people, small town feel, and focus on excellence.

Traveling, reading, and fishing.

Fun fact

I heard the sonic booms when the final Atlantis NASA space shuttle landed at Kennedy Space Center. I was on a remote job in Orlando, Florida on that day on July 21, 2011.

Favorite book/movie

Mississippi Burning: I love Gene Hackman and this film speaks to my sense of justice.

What will you do and learn in my courses

My orientation to teaching is informed by 20 years of clinical experience as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for both the State of Oregon and the US Department of Veterans Affairs.  I emphasize real-world clinical insights and personal experience as a person with a disability as it relates to both mental health and rehabilitation counseling.

Western Oregon University’s Land Acknowledgement
Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR is located within the traditional homelands of the Luckiamute Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya etc. Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Today, living descendants of these people are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
