          IDS Focus Areas

          To complete an IDS major, students must select at least 2 focus areas (maximum of 3) and earn at least 27 credits in both focus areas. At minimum, 48 credits in the IDS major must be upper division (300 and 400 level).

          Behavioral Sciences Gerontology, Psychology
          Business and Economics Business, Economics, Entrepreneurship
          Creative Arts Art, Art Education, Creative Arts, Dance, Music, Music Education, Music Ensembles, Music Performance, Theater Arts
          Computer Science Computer Science, Computer Science Education, Information Systems
          Education Education, Art Education, Music Education, Health Education, and any courses that pertain to education
          Health and Exercise Science Health, Physical Education, Exercise Science
          Humanities Communication Studies, English, Film Studies, Humanities, Linguistics, Literature, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Spanish, German Studies, French, Religious Studies, Writing
          Natural Science and Mathematics Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, General Science, Mathematics, Physics
          Special Education American Sign Language Studies and Interpreting
          Social Science Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Geography, History, Political Science, Sociology, Sustainability, Psychology

           

          *The above focus areas are common examples. Students can also select focus areas that are specific subject areas, such as: Psychology, Communication Studies, Writing, Spanish, Biology, etc.

          **Students can also decide to Create Their Own Focus Area. Some past examples include Gender Studies, Public Administration, Organizational Leadership, and more.

          Western Oregon University’s Land Acknowledgement
          Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR is located within the traditional homelands of the Luckiamute Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya etc. Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Today, living descendants of these people are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
