Freedom Center Resources

  • Student Advising:
    • Assist with course scheduling, professor/advisor connections
    • Connect students to other resources on campus
    • Assist with basic “things to know:
  • Supplies:
    • Provide students the opportunity to get the school supplies they need without worrying about financial burden that comes with university costs
    • Offer supplies table outside of the center for easy grab-and-go access if center is not open
  • Advocacy and Education:
    • Serve as a voice for students
    • Assistance with Sex & Gender-Based Misconduct and Bias Incident Reporting Form
    • Offer anonymous suggestion form for students to express their thoughts about our resources 
    • Host events that acknowledge underrepresented and underserved communities with an education component 
    • Post information content on social media to spread awareness about occurring issues
  • Snacks/Beverages:
    • Support students facing food scarcity
    • Supply free snacks (i.e. applesauce, crackers, chips, fruit leathers, etc.) and beverages (water, energy drinks, soda, etc)
    • Direct students to the Food Pantry (although inventory varies)
  • Connections:
    • Provide department/club brochures and flyers 
    • Provide links to opportunities and resources on campus through our instagram (@woufreedomcenter)
    • Host events highlighting key months and cultural traditions
      • 2022-2023 Year Events:
        • Hispanic Jeopardy (ASWOU) – Hispanic Heritage Month
        • Black History Month Bingo Movie Night – Black History Month
        • Fem Climb Night (Campus Rec) – Women’s History Month
        • Diversity Celebration (FAAWOU, ODS, Unidos, Mecha, etc.) – Diversity Month
        • May Day is Lei Day (Hawai’i Club) – AAPI Month
        • Celebrating Identities (ODS & ASWOU)
        • End of the Year Celebration

    Western Oregon University’s Land Acknowledgement
    Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR is located within the traditional homelands of the Luckiamute Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya etc. Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Today, living descendants of these people are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
