President: The ASWOU President is the head of the Executive Branch. Elected by their peers, the President serves a full academic year and can only serve another year if re-elected in the spring. The primary job of the ASWOU President is to represent the students at Western Oregon University to not only the WOU administration, but at a local/state/federal level as well. To properly address the representation at a statewide level, the ASWOU President sits on the Oregon Student Association’s (OSA) Board of Governors (BOG) along with other Oregon university and community college representatives. On top of advocating for the rights of students, the President is responsible for the inter-workings of ASWOU. They select any Executive Cabinet members, attend Senate and Judicial Board meetings, appoint hundreds of students to committees across the campus, as well as sit on many committees themselves, and have a running list of other various duties. This position is required to work and is compensated for 20 hours each week (classified as a 1A paid position) for 12 months, June 2022 to June 2023.
Senate President: The Senate President is the head of the Legislative Branch of ASWOU. The Senate President facilitates the ASWOU Senate. The Senate President represents Senate at Executive Cabinet and Judicial Board meetings, as well as recruiting members of the student body to the ASWOU Senate. The Senate President is in charge of planning meeting places/times and working with Senate leadership. The Senate President is a resource to Senators, as well as any and all students. The Senate President also attends the Incidental Fee Committee to represent student opinion but does not have a vote. This position is required to work and is compensated for 20 hours each week (classified as a 1.0.A paid position) beginning in September 2022 through June 2023.
Senator: There are 11 elected seats available on the ASWOU Senate. These students meet weekly to discuss and create legislation to address student concerns on campus. The Senate is also responsible for approving the IFC Budget every winter which affects how much students will pay in fees. This body may amend the ASWOU Governing Documents, which include the ASWOU Constitution, By-Laws, and the Statute for ASWOU Chartered Organizations. Senators are required to write legislation, interact with the student body, attend subcommittee meetings, and attend and vote at all Senate meetings. This is a volunteer position within ASWOU requiring roughly 5 hours each week from September 2022 to June 2023.
Vice President: The ASWOU Vice President is the second individual responsible for the ASWOU organization only after the ASWOU President. This position works internally (on the WOU campus) to ensure students have the best possible education and life at Western. The Vice President also shares the administrative duties as deemed necessary by the ASWOU President. This position is required to work and is compensated for 15 hours a week (classified as a .75A paid position) beginning in September 2022 through June 2023.
IFC Member: There are 3 elected positions available on this committee. These individuals, along with 6 other appointed members, meet to decide on the budgets from areas around the campus which are funded either in whole or in some part by the Incidental Fee charged to WOU’s students each term. These individuals are expected to attend all committee meetings and contribute to budget discussion and decisions. No budgetary experience is required since training is provided for all committee members. This is a volunteer position that requires between 5 and 10 hours a week for both Fall and Winter Terms.
Judicial Administrator: The Judicial Administrator is the head of the Judicial Branch. They oversee the Judicial Board and represent them at Executive Cabinet meetings as well as Senate meetings. They are in charge of facilitating the Judicial Board meetings and do the preparation for the meetings. The Judicial Administrator also monitors ASWOU as a whole (including all chartered organizations) to ensure that ASWOU is adhering to their governing documents. This position is required to work and is compensated for 20 hours each week (classified as a 1.0A paid position) beginning in September 2022 through June 2023.
Justice: There are 3 elected seats available on the Judicial Board. These students, along with two additional members appointed by the ASWOU President, meet weekly to make up the Judicial Branch. This branch oversees ASWOU as a whole to ensure that ASWOU is running in accordance with the ASWOU Constitution, By-Laws, and the Statute for ASWOU Chartered Organizations. This includes elected officials, hired positions, and student organizations that are chartered with ASWOU. This branch also assists in running elections with the Election Committee of ASWOU. This is a volunteer position within ASWOU requiring roughly 2 hours per week from September 2022 to June 2023.
