FAQ

1. Are we definitely changing to a new learning management system (LMS)?

Not necessarily. As explained on the Project Overview page, the process has three possible outcomes:

  1. Stay with our current LMS.
  2. Make a change to a new LMS.
  3. Make recommendations on better ways to support our LMS.

Even if the campus decides to stay with our current learning management system (Moodle), we hope the process will also lead to ways we can provide better support.

2. Is this LMS Review Team making the decisions?

No. The LMS Review Team’s mission is to facilitate the process, using input gathered from campus surveys, focus groups, vendor demonstrations, etc, to make recommendations to the University Technology Advisory Committee (UTAC).  We hope everyone has a voice in this and that the process is as inclusive as possible. UTAC will then vote on whether to pass along these recommendations to the University Council, which will ultimately make any decisions.

3.  Where did this LMS Review Team come from?

It was initially started as subcommittee out of UTAC, who created the initial LMS Review proposal. Other members were added outside of UTAC, by soliciting advice from various campus stakeholders, to make the new LMS Review Team as balanced as possible.

4.  How can I provide feedback or get involved?

Since the LMS Review Team is serving in a mostly facilitative role, and we want to keep the group as nimble as possible, we are not seeking more members at this time. The best way to provide feedback, suggestions, or other comments is to contact a member of the team, who will then ensure that your concerns are passed on to the whole group and incorporated into the discussion.  You will also have ample opportunity to provide feedback through campus surveys, vendor demonstrations, and focus groups.

5. If we switch from Moodle, what will happen to the content of my class?

If the decision is made to switch to a new LMS, there will be lots of support available to help you, as well as a long lead time and plenty of warning to ensure that the process is as smooth as possible.
