LMS Vendor Demos – October 2019

Dear Campus Community,

The University Technology Advisory Committee (UTAC) is seeking information regarding our Learning Management System (LMS) as part of a regular review process to help facilitate inclusive recommendations regarding this important element of University Technology. An LMS Review has been convened with the goal to provide recommendations to on these  outcomes: stay with our current LMS (Moodle), make a change to a new LMS, and make recommendations on better ways to support our LMS.

We have invited the following four LMS vendors to demo their products. This is your opportunity to see options and give feedback to the LMS Review process. The demos will be recorded and will be available shortly following the presentations.

Moodle Satisfaction Survey

The University Technology Advisory Committee (UTAC) is seeking information regarding our Learning Management System (LMS) as part of a regular review process to help facilitate inclusive recommendations regarding this important element of University Technology. You can learn more about the LMS review process at https://wou.edu/wp/lmsreview/. As an important component of the review, we would like your input on your experience with our LMS, Moodle.

You can provide your feedback by completing the linked fac/staff survey.

We estimate this survey will take about 10-15 minutes of your time. Please respond by May 30. Please be aware that this is simply part of a normal review process that UTAC is piloting as we establish our full technology plan and that UTAC is not yet making any recommendation regarding the LMS or planning to change the LMS. This process is about reviewing our needs and determining how those needs can be met most effectively. If you have any questions about the review process, please visit https://wou.edu/wp/lmsreview/faq/ or contact a member of the LMS review team (https://wou.edu/wp/lmsreview/lmsreview-team/).

Welcome to the LMS Review site

In 2008, Western Oregon University adopted Moodle as its primary learning management system (LMS), discontinuing the LMS we’d been using for the previous ten years, WebCT, not long after. While Moodle has served us fairly well, ten years is a long time to go without a systematic review, especially considering all the changes in the online education landscape during this time and the school’s increasing reliance on this technology to deliver high-quality instruction.

To determine whether any changes should be made, not just to our LMS but to how we support it, WOU has commenced a regular systematic LMS review process, starting now and to happen once every five years, with these clearly defined outcomes:

  1. Stay with our current LMS
  2. Make a change to a new LMS
  3. Make recommendations on better ways to support our LMS

Finally, the LMS is so central to our mission that the process should be as open, thorough and as inclusive as possible.  Updates regarding the LMS Review will be regularly communicated via this website. For more information, see both the Project Overview and Timeline pages. If you have questions, please reach out to any of the members of the LMS Review team.
