Edwin DeVore
Ressler was born in Westerville,
Ohio on November 2, 1869.
Ressler began his educational
in his hometown, attending
Otterbein University and working
as a teacher. Ressler received
a Bachelor of Arts from Otterbein
in 1897, and, later, completed
the requirements for a Masters
at Ohio State University.
Ressler was superintendent
of several schools in Ohio
before taking the job of Superintendent
of Schools in Eugene, Oregon.
While in Eugene, Ressler organized
the first high school in the
Eugene public schools, and
taught at the University of
Oregon for a year. In 1901,
Ressler accepted a teaching
position at the Oregon State
Normal School (OSNS) in Monmouth.
A year later, OSNS President
Prince
Lucien Campbell resigned
to accept the leadership of
the University of Oregon in
Eugene. Ressler was appointed
president of OSNS by the school’s
board of trustees in 1902.
He remained in this position
until 1909, when he became
Dean of the Oregon Agriculture
College at Oregon State University
in Corvallis.
During Ressler’s time
at the Oregon Agriculture
College, he also served as
Executive Secretary of the
Oregon State Teachers Association
in 1916. Edwin DeVore Ressler
worked at the Oregon Agriculture
College until his death on
October 18, 1926.
