October 18th: Girlhood

[Drama] Beautifully shot, frustrating, vibrant, fun, heartbreaking, and electric, Girlhood is a stunning and intimate exploration of female adolescence and friendship in the immigrant banlieues (suburbs) of Paris. The film is unsentimental in its portrayal of the way its subject, 16-year-old Marieme, must adapt in the face of the socio-economic and patriarchal forces that constrain her, but finds joy in her strength, dignity and growing sense of herself.
