Account Expiration FAQ

We've had some questions lately about our how long we keep WOU accounts (email, network, etc...) after a student leaves the University.

WOU Graduates:

If you graduated from WOU, your network accounts are disabled after 2 years. This means you can no longer store files on our network or log in to any campus computer. However, your email account is not disabled until it has been inactive for 5 years. Yes, this means you can keep it for the rest of your life, if you keep using it. You will still need to change your password every year like everyone else.

WOU students who are not graduates:

If you attended WOU, but did not graduate, your accounts are all disabled after 2 years since your last class. This includes network drives and email access.

Faculty/Staff

Faculty and Staff who retire from WOU have network access for 2 years and keep their email access until it has been inactive for 3 years.

Faculty and Staff who leave the University (but didn't retire) have their network and email accounts disabled immediately.
