ABOUT THE JOB<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Writing Tutor at Western Oregon University\u2019s Writing Center provides personalized, one-on-one writing support (in-person and online) to students across all disciplines<\/em> during any stage of the writing process<\/em>. Writing Tutors help students develop their writing skills by guiding them through the writing process, from brainstorming ideas to revising drafts. Tutors promote critical thinking, clarity, and confidence in student writing and foster a supportive, collaborative, and inclusive environment where they can improve their writing and learn new strategies for academic success.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our current staff includes writers from various majors and a diverse set of interests and experiences. Additionally, we actively seek applicants who represent traditionally underrepresented groups. Students from diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds and\/or who are multilingual are highly encouraged to apply. We\u2019re looking for strong writers who are passionate about writing, of course, but also curious about the ways writing is part of teaching and part of student life, within and beyond the university. You don\u2019t need to think you\u2019re a perfect writer\u2014just a\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>reflective<\/i><\/strong>\u00a0one.<\/strong> Do you think carefully about how to communicate complex information in a way that people can understand? Do you like helping other people do it too? Then this job is for you.<\/span><\/p>\n

We are currently hiring for a Spring Term start date. Your first term as a Tutor will predominantly be spent in training, with independent tutoring starting in Fall. For this reason, we are not able to accept applications from graduating seniors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tutors typically work 8-10 regular hours per week (including some evenings and weekends), but the job involves more than those regular shifts. In addition to the regular hours, tutors may engage in writing-related projects, workshops, and even participate in Writing Center conferences. The Writing Center provides substantial training and mentoring for these positions and encourages applications from students who are interested in learning communication and facilitation skills while helping others.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
