Brief Description: SafeZone’s GSA Day is a conference day for high school students and their advisors to connect with other GSA groups from around Oregon, learn about LGBTQ+ life at WOU, and gain resources and information on to succeed after high school. We welcome students at any point in their high school careers to visit our campus, connect with students from around the state, learn about LGBTQ+ collegiate life from our current students, and gain information and resources to be successful as future student leaders.

This event will include talks from two keynote speakers, Logan Casey and Raechel Anne Jolie.
Logan Casey is a Policy Researcher for the Movement Advancement Project (MAP), where he creates accessible and persuasive policy research, manages the Equality Maps tracking LGBT-related state and local laws, and conducts analyses of LGBT movement capacity. Prior to joining MAP, Logan was a Research Associate for the Harvard Opinion Research Program and served as the deputy director on a polling series about discrimination in America, among other projects. He is a Missouri native and earned his Ph.D. in political science in 2016 from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
Raechel Anne Jolie is a writer, educator, and media maker. Raechel received her PhD in Communication Studies with a minor in Gender & Sexuality Studies from the University of Minnesota. Her writing has been published in numerous academic journals as well as various popular press sites (Teen Vogue, Bitch Magazine, In These Times, and more). Her memoir, Rust Belt Femme, is forthcoming from Belt Publishing. She is a proud cat-momma, a tarot reader, and co-producer/host of the Feminist Killjoys, PhD podcast. In addition to these events, we will also hold roundtable discussions aimed at helping advisors network and collaborate on challenges and successes they experience at their home institutions.
Lunch, beverages, and snacks are included and are provided by the Bread Board, a gay-owned bakery and pizzeria in Falls City, OR.
