In 2011, I began my adventures at Western Oregon University in the Mathematics Department. It was a wonderful place to learn and grow professionally. Faculty and students alike were a joy to work with and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity that I was given there. The memories of my experience in math will always give me great joy.  The Sonia Kovalevsky Day they hold each year was such fun event to help plan. I will forever cheer on girls going into the mathematics field. My position was eliminated due to cut backs that happened at WOU during COVID. I then took a brief jump to ASWOU, then went to the Registrar’s Office and WOU:Salem. All were great places to be but just weren’t quite the right fit for me.Thank you to everyone in those offices who were so patient and kind to me. I moved to the Student Enrichment Program in November of 2022. This office is a great fun place to be where we get to help First Generation Students through their college years with advisors who care so deeply. We have lots of fun activities and ways to help students.

If you haven’t visited WOU:Salem yet, you should. It’s a great space! Located at 525 Trade Street in Salem, I encourage you to visit. It’s a beautiful space for rent as well. Jessica Murfin is wonderful to work with and will assist you. The main WOU: Salem line is (503) 838-9740.

WOU University is closed annually on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, 4th of July, Labor Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas day and New Year’s Day.

Graduation applications are due:

• Fall term:  Friday, October 7, 2022
• Winter term:  Friday, January 20, 2023
• Spring term:  Friday, April 14, 2023

If you want to apply after the deadline, you will need to petition to do so.  If all your requirements are fulfilled for your degree, if will be auto-approved and you can send your petition found here: Academic Petition  (wou.edu) to graduation@wou.edu email.  If your Degree Tracks requirements for your degree have not been met and it is not complete, you will need to send your petition to registrar@wou.edu. and it will go to the Academic Petition Review Committee. They meet on Wednesdays.

Please be sure to indicate in section #4 what term you are applying to graduate. You need to have your advisor’s signature on the form or an email sent supporting your petition.  Be sure to include the name you would like printed on your diploma and the address to send it to in the email as well.

2022-2023 Academic Year is as follows:

First day of fall term: September 26, 2022.  (Finals: December 5-9, 2022)

—Registration begins for winter term:  Monday, November 14, 2022

First day of winter term: January 6, 2023.  (Finals: March 20-24, 2023)

—Registration begins for spring term:  Monday, February 27, 2023

First day of spring term:  April 3, 2023.  (Spring term Finals: June 12 – 16, 2023)

—Registration begins for fall term:  Monday, May 22, 2023

Commencement Ceremony:  Saturday, June 17, 2023

First day of summer term:  June 26, 2023.
