Tree City USA

Monmouth has been a Tree City USA since 2001.  The Tree City USA® program, sponsored by The National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, provides direction, technical assistance, public attention, and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs in more than 3,400 towns and cities that more than 135 million Americans call home.   Oregon currently has 57 Tree City communities that are home to more than half the state’s residents.

The city has a strong commitment to community forestry and smart management of it’s trees. Being a Tree City USA means we have:

  • A Tree Advisory Board
  • A Tree Care Ordinance
  • A Community Forestry Program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita
  • An Arbor Day Observance and Proclamation

Monmouth Street Tree Inventory: The street tree inventory is being conducted by Western Oregon University faculty and students and includes an interactive map of the city showing all the street trees and park trees. This is a great way to learn more about what trees exist in the community. Follow the link below to get information about trees near you, including health and identity!

Tree Benefit Calculator: To find out how planting a tree can have multiple benefits to yourself and the surrounding community, check out the National Tree Benefit Calculator. This tool can tell you the benefits of a particular species of tree in a given zip code, including money and energy saved each year.
