Welcome to the Polk County Math Circle!
The Polk County Math Circle is a NEW program coming to Western Oregon University in 2022.
The Polk County Math Circle will increase mathematical creativity, persistence, and community in Polk County, Oregon by pairing high school students with college student mentors to work on challenging and fun mathematics outside of the high school classroom.
ALL interested high school students in Polk County are welcome to register! (For interested high school students not residing in Polk County, contact Leanne at firstname.lastname@example.org to determine your eligibility.)
The Polk County Math Circle meets online from 3:45pm to 5:30pm on the Third Thursdays in 2022 (January 20th, February 17th, March 17th, April 21st, and May 19th).

Meet our Mentors
Howdy! My name is TJ (he/him), and I’m a senior at WOU. I am majoring in Mathematics and minoring in English to Speakers of Other Languages. I plan on entering the Master of Arts in Teaching program at WOU for my graduate degree this summer to work in a high school as a math teacher. I am very excited to be able to work with this inaugural program, and I look forward to working with all the students on some creative and fun math.
Hi! My name is Jill (she/her). I am a junior at WOU, and majoring in Education with a concentration in Middle/High Mathematics. After graduating, I hope to teach middle school mathematics. I look forward to meeting and working with all the students. I can’t wait to dive into some interesting math concepts!
Hi! My name is Madi (she/her), and I’m a junior at Western. I am majoring in Education with a focus in Mathematics. My goal is to become a middle school math teacher after I graduate in the spring of 2023. I love sharing the gift of math with others and am very excited to be a part of this program!
Hello hello, my name is Travis (he/him), and I am majoring in Mathematics and I plan on graduating in the spring of 2023. I love baseball and coach anywhere from 6th graders-college players, I will be coaching at Newport High School this Spring. My goal is to be a math teacher and baseball/football coach at either the high school or college level. I have fallen in love with math and hope I can share some of that with all the students.
