{"id":758,"date":"2015-02-16T15:26:09","date_gmt":"2015-02-16T23:26:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wou.edu\/westernjournal\/?p=758"},"modified":"2015-02-16T16:18:42","modified_gmt":"2015-02-17T00:18:42","slug":"students-attend-state-capitol-rally-to-restore-higher-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/students-attend-state-capitol-rally-to-restore-higher-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Students attend state capitol rally to restore higher education"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_762\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-762\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernjournal\/files\/2015\/02\/IMG_862921.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-762 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernjournal\/files\/2015\/02\/IMG_862921-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"PHOTO BY ALYSSA TAYLOR\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-762\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PHOTO BY ALYSSA TAYLOR<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<pre>By JACK ARMSTRONG\r\n News Editor<\/pre>\n<p>Over 100 Western students attended the Rally to Restore Higher Education at the Oregon state capitol building, Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The rally was part of an effort by the Oregon Student Association to push the further investment needed for Oregon to freeze state university and community college tuition rates until 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives from Western joined students from 26 other community colleges and state universities from across Oregon.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 480px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-758-1\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernjournal\/files\/2015\/02\/MVI_8655.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernjournal\/files\/2015\/02\/MVI_8655.mp4\">https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernjournal\/files\/2015\/02\/MVI_8655.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div><br \/>\nThe Oregon Legislature would need to invest $755 million for state universities and $560 million for community colleges to ensure that tuition rates could remain the same.
