{"id":7314,"date":"2018-03-07T23:06:06","date_gmt":"2018-03-08T07:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wou.edu\/westernjournal\/?p=7314"},"modified":"2018-03-07T23:06:06","modified_gmt":"2018-03-08T07:06:06","slug":"music-while-you-dine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/music-while-you-dine\/","title":{"rendered":"Music while you dine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernjournal\/files\/2018\/03\/performerguy-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-7305\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2018\/03\/performerguy-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2018\/03\/performerguy-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2018\/03\/performerguy-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Zo<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00eb<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Strickland | Editor-in-Chief<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Valsetz was bursting with the sound of acoustic guitar on March 2, when Cooper Anstett came to campus as part Valsetz Live, hosted by the Student Activities Board and Weekend Programs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Anstett, a Michigan-based folk singer, found himself performing on the stage of the dining hall by way of the National Association for Campus Activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe usually hire all of our performers from NACA,\u201d said Matthew Ciraulo, Director of the Student Activities Board. \u201cSo, that\u2019s just a whole weekend where people are performing and getting people riled up.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Anstett\u2019s performance was part of a push by the board to bring more musical events to campus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cMy executive board really wants this campus to be a musical campus <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for people to really want to listen to music,\u201d said Ciraulo. \u201cWe came up with the idea of Valetz Live.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For Valetz Live specifically, they wanted to bring an artist who was both talented and dynamic <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">since the bustle of Valsetz can yield a hesitant audience. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The show boasted a moderate, but lively audience, who joined along with Anstett\u2019s singing. The performance was centered around narrative nearly as much as it was music. Throughout the set, he interacted with the audience as well as provided commentary on each piece he was performing. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Anstett\u2019s most famous song, \u201cMove,\u201d first appeared in a 2016 Chevy commercial. The song, though used to promote vehicles, was originally inspired by him having to take care of an intoxicated friend. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe funny thing about this song is that it was in a Chevy commercial, which was really cool for me. But they had no idea it was about taking care of your turnt buddy,\u201d noted Anstett before the performance. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Anstett\u2019s latest album, \u201cCooper,\u201d came out in 2016 and can be found on most digital music platforms. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Contact the author at journaleditor@wou.edu<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p>Photo by: Paul F.
