{"id":6602,"date":"2017-10-25T00:05:17","date_gmt":"2017-10-25T08:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wou.edu\/westernjournal\/?p=6602"},"modified":"2017-10-24T20:59:45","modified_gmt":"2017-10-25T04:59:45","slug":"western-womens-soccer-relinquishes-wins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/western-womens-soccer-relinquishes-wins\/","title":{"rendered":"Western women\u2019s soccer relinquishes wins"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Zo<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00eb<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Strickland | Managing Editor<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Oct. 19 and 21, the Wolves\u2019s women\u2019s soccer team played one game on the road and one at home \u2014 neither ended favorably for the Wolves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The team headed to Portland, Oregon on Oct. 19 to face Concordia University, currently ranked second in the GNAC. Concordia got the win in the second half, beating Western 3-0. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The first half of the game was left a stalemate, with Western\u2019s defense stealing the show and blocking repeated goal attempts by the Cavaliers. Western sophomore goalie Caitlin Kastelic aided the Wolves with four blocks in the first half. The score was 0-0 going into the second half.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Seven minutes into the latter half of the game, Concordia sophomore midfielder Gabrielle Ewing put the team on the board with a goal. The rest of the game saw goals by Concordia junior forward Maddie Misi and defensive player Makenzee Cleveland. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Oct. 21, Saint Martin\u2019s headed to the Western soccer field for a \u2018think pink\u2019 game. The game ended with the Wolves losing 1-2 in overtime. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The game had a promising start <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> junior midfielder Dacia Alexander put the Wolves on the scoreboard with a goal in the opening two minutes of the game. Alexander had three additional shots throughout the course of the game, all of which were blocked by Saint Martin\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A goal at the end of the second half by Saint Martin\u2019s senior midfielder Dulce Armas leveled the score 2-2, resulting in overtime.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Three minutes into overtime, Saint Martin\u2019s junior midfielder Amber Burbridge scored the winning goal for the team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These losses place Western eighth in the GNAC, with a conference score of 1-7-2.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Wolves are playing their last two games of the season next week; they head to Washington on Oct. 26 to play against Seattle Pacific, and close out the season at home with an Oct. 28 game against Simon Fraser. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Contact the author at journalmanaging@wou.edu<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Zo\u00eb Strickland | Managing Editor On Oct. 19 and 21, the Wolves\u2019s women\u2019s soccer team played one game on the road and one at home \u2014 neither ended favorably for the Wolves.
