{"id":3121,"date":"2016-03-03T19:28:27","date_gmt":"2016-03-04T03:28:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wou.edu\/westernjournal\/?p=3121"},"modified":"2026-04-14T19:29:43","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T03:29:43","slug":"first-year-accidentally-completes-400-level-art-course","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/first-year-accidentally-completes-400-level-art-course\/","title":{"rendered":"First year accidentally completes 400 level art course"},"content":{"rendered":"<pre>By: Katrina Penaflor \r\nManaging Editor<\/pre>\n<p>Franklin Rogers now holds a fat portfolio of C minus art pieces to display in his 14-by-14 foot dorm room after painstakingly completing an upper division level art course that he didn\u2019t belong in.<\/p>\n<p>Rogers, a first year exercise science major, made the mistake of not knowing how to locate room 314 in Bellamy Hall, finding himself in the art building by accident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI already walked in late. Everyone was looking at me and the professor told me to \u2018just take a seat.\u2019 So I did,\u201d Rogers said.<\/p>\n<p>Rogers continued to take that seat for the duration of the term, completely abandoning hope on the English class he wasn\u2019t able to locate on the first day.<\/p>\n<p>Rogers spoke about how he felt intimidated by the skill level and age of his classmates. He often thought he would\u2019ve been discovered by his use of crayons for every art piece, making him an obvious outsider to the classroom of experienced artists.<\/p>\n<p>When asked why he didn\u2019t just stop showing up all together, Rogers replied, \u201cWell, I think at, like, eight weeks in I did think about that. I kept wanting to say something, but at that point I was in too deep. I would\u2019ve just looked like an idiot if I said to my professor, \u2018Hey, it\u2019s week eight.
