French-American actor Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet stars as a younger version of \u201cCharlie and the Chocolate Factory\u2019s\u201d chocolatier, Willy Wonka. \u201cSo quiet up, and listen down. Nope, scratch that, reverse it,\u201d as Wonka says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The movie features talented actors, such as Hugh Grant, Olivia Colman and Keegan-Michael Key. Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet has acquired a fan base of young women from his roles in movies such as \u201cCall Me By Your Name,\u201d \u201cLady Bird\u201d and \u201cLittle Women.\u201d Word of Chalamet playing a familiar favorite spread quickly. However, some movie-goers had mixed feelings about the new take on the classic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cCharlie and the Chocolate Factory &#8221; has already seen two adaptations, starring Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp as Wonka. Additionally, the original book has a sequel, and some fans were wondering why a prequel made it to the screen before an adaptation of the sequel did.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lili Minato, a sophomore at Western, is a film fanatic and meticulously selects her movies. She proposed a thoughtful question in regards to the new addition to the \u201cCharlie and the Chocolate Factory\u201d universe \u2014 \u201cI think (prequels) can be done well\u2026 but if you want to make a prequel, is it needed?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Perhaps the initial audience reaction to \u201cWonka\u201d was due to its misleading advertising. \u201cI thought it was weird that they didn\u2019t (advertise) Wonka as a musical. People went and saw it, and were like, wait, why are they singing?\u201d Minato said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Minato also commented that marketing the movie as a musical would have brought in more theater fans. \u201cFor some people, that sounds like the total package.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The movie has an 82% on Rotten Tomatoes and it has many qualities that make for a great movie. With its vibrant costumes, catchy music and elaborate sets, it\u2019s hard to look away. Elements incorporated from older movies such as \u201cAnnie\u201d and \u201cMary Poppins\u201d make \u201cWonka\u201d all the more charming.
