{"id":19575,"date":"2023-02-15T20:27:51","date_gmt":"2023-02-16T04:27:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/?p=19575"},"modified":"2023-02-15T20:27:51","modified_gmt":"2023-02-16T04:27:51","slug":"valentines-activities-on-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/valentines-activities-on-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"Valentine&#8217;s activities on campus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Written by: <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mirella Barrera-Betancourt<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In honor of Valentine\u2019s Day, several Western clubs and organizations are hosting events for the student community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Non-Traditional Student Services are celebrating by arranging some Valentine\u2019s Day themed activities, such as craft making and cookie decorating. Cookie decorating will be taking place on Saturday, Feb. 18, in the Werner University Center Summit Room from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meanwhile, other organizations took advantage of Valentine\u2019s Day by spreading an important message.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As Western\u2019s official Center for Equity and Gender Justice, Abby\u2019s House used Valentine\u2019s Day to inform and remind individuals of the concept of consent.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">From Feb. 13 to Feb. 14, students could visit Abby\u2019s House at a tabling area, featuring a photo booth. Students could receive a safety accessory \u2014 a scrunchie that doubles as an anti-spiking drink cover \u2014 by following Abby\u2019s House on Instagram. The tabling area also provided hand-held signs illustrating expressions related to consent, such as \u201cCat against catcalls\u201d and \u201cLimits, respect them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Additionally, as a way to spread kindness and ensure no individual is left out, the Student Activities Board were providing Valentine\u2019s cards and goodies to students in the WUC on Valentine\u2019s Day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Many campus organizations will continue hosting Valentine&#8217;s Day themed events leading up to and after Valentine\u2019s Day. Some of the larger organizations, such as the Residence Hall Association, are responsible for a wider multitude of on-campus events.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Similar to last year, all residence halls participated in the distribution of Valegrams. Students could sign up to have Valegrams delivered \u2014 either for themselves, friends or partners \u2014 for no charge.
