There are 36 black-and-white photos that portray the lives of five female Chinese exchange students, who stayed in the United States for one year. Cai has broken up this narrative into five stages: arriving, registering, studying, enjoying and leaving.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"444\" height=\"296\" class=\" wp-image-11530 aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2019\/12\/gallery3-bw-1024x683.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2019\/12\/gallery3-bw-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2019\/12\/gallery3-bw-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2019\/12\/gallery3-bw-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2019\/12\/gallery3-bw-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2019\/12\/gallery3-bw-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 444px) 100vw, 444px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Professor Tankersley wrote, \u201c&#8230; sincere images of [<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">she<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">] open a direct window into the lived experiences of individual women whose time at WOU is characterized by a duality of the remarkable and the mundane.\u201d He continues to write, \u201cDongna Cai\u2019s photographs remind us to be curious about the people we encounter, to take risks and venture bravely into the unknown\u2026 and to appreciate the journey.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"479\" height=\"319\" class=\" wp-image-11526 aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2019\/12\/gallery1-bw-1024x683.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2019\/12\/gallery1-bw-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2019\/12\/gallery1-bw-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2019\/12\/gallery1-bw-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2019\/12\/gallery1-bw-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/wou.edu\/westernhowl\/files\/2019\/12\/gallery1-bw-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 479px) 100vw, 479px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The photos themselves are simple in nature, but the feelings they give viewers is that of\u00a0 warmness. Seeing five women on Western\u2019s campus by the Maaske Hall, or simply at the library, the bank, the gym or their apartments, brings the viewer on a journey with these students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The five Chinese exchange students are experiencing something that many have not had the opportunity or the courage to do.
