Luckily, Western\u2019s student government, ASWOU, developed the ASWOU book exchange. Operating all year under the \u2018My Programs\u2019 tab in the student portal, it exists as a way to buy and sell textbooks for comparatively less than through the bookstore.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to an email sent out on Oct. 8, by ASWOU\u2019s director of internal affairs, Danielle Campbell, \u201c<\/span><span>Selling a book is easy, fill out the info online and we will hold your book for up to 365 days. After that, you can come pick it up, or leave it to become ASWOU property. Once you choose to purchase or sell a book, you have 24 hours to either drop off your book or pay and pick up at the ASWOU office in WUC 122.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In a personal interview, Cambell suggested that searching by ISBN would be the most efficient way to find the right books through the portal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The cupboards in front of ASWOU are filled with over 500 books.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSome are really outdated,\u201d Campbell admitted, \u201cthere\u2019s no way of really knowing what&#8217;s going to be used this year or next year because professors are always changing their materials, so we don\u2019t want to get rid of any of them.\u201d<\/span><span> Campbell also stated, \u201cthe system that we have online was created only a few years ago for a senior project for the computer science program and it\u2019s made by students, so it\u2019s a very basic system.\u201d She also hinted at a desire for the system to become more advanced in the next few years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u00a0Nevertheless, ASWOU book exchange exists as \u201ca way for students to set their own price of what they think is fair,\u201d and a way for \u201cstudents \u2026 (to) help other students,\u201d says Campbell.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>For more information, contact ASWOU\u2019s Director of Internal Affairs at <\/span><a href=\"mailto:aswou@.wou.edu\"><span>aswou@.wou.edu<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Contact the author at <a href=\"mailto:howlnews@wou.edu\">howlnews@wou.edu<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sage Kiernan-Sherrow | News Editor There is a general consensus among college students and that consensus is this: textbooks are extremely expensive.
