All students receiving Veterans\u2019 benefits at WOU must be admitted to the University. If you have not already done so please start by applying to WOU,<\/a>\u00a0or contact Admissions<\/a> if you have questions regarding the admissions process. Remember to request & submit your Community College transcripts, JSTs, <\/a>or\u00a0CCAF<\/a> transcripts for credit, The Veteran Certifying Official will apply appropriate credits as allowed by WOU.<\/p>\n

In order to use Veterans\u2019 Educational Benefits you must first apply for them through the\u00a0<\/span>VA’s eBenefits website<\/a>. Once you receive approval from the VA they will send you a letter (a physical letter typically) called Certificate of Eligibility<\/strong> or Letter of Eligibility<\/strong>. Send this to our Veterans\u2019 Certifying Official <\/a>as soon as possible, they will send back next steps a few days later and the process is nearly done!<\/p>\n

Until you declare your degree (major) you can only receive Veterans\u2019 benefits for classes that meet requirements for all programs (such as our Liberal Arts Core Curriculum; LACC requirements or General Education; Gen Ed requirements). Not sure what degree program to pursue? We recommend you contact Academic Advising<\/a> regarding the many great options here at WOU.\u00a0Only courses that are necessary for the students\u2019 degree program, as indicated on the students Degree Evaluation, will be reported to the VA. If you have questions regarding how to build or check your degree program please contact your academic advisor.<\/p>\n

EACH TERM:<\/strong>
After you register for classes each term<\/strong> you must electronically submit a Request for Certification <\/a>to use your Veteran benefits (or TA<\/a>). To ensure you and your WOU account are paid timely, it is crucial you do this as soon as possible (ideally before the beginning of the term)<\/p>\n

Western Oregon recognizes the members of the U.S. Armed Forces and honorably discharged veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces by exempting them from paying the $60 admissions application fee.\u00a0 Provide a copy of your DD-214, or, for current military members, a copy of your most recent military orders, Enlisted Records Brief (ERB), or Officer Records Brief (ORB). Your full name, birthday, and service dates will be necessary for authentication, but you are free to black\/white out whatever other sensitive information you do not want readable.<\/span>\u00a0Once you have completed the online application for admissions form, please select the \u201cdefer your application fee\u201d box. When the supporting documents have been received, the application fee will be waived and your application will be processed. You can scan or e-mail these documents to to\u00a0wolfgram@wou.edu.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Tuition Assistance from the Student Perspective:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    <\/a>Create an ArmyIgnitED<\/a> account and select an education path. If you do not see your degree program, contact veterans@wou.edu<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    WOU’s Veterans Certifying Official will upload your course enrollment<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  5. \n

    WOU’s Veterans Certifying Official will email your WOU account asking that you log into ArmyIgnitED<\/a> the next day after 8:00 am to request tuition assistance.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  6. \n

    This begins the approval process for your courses. Tuition will be paid for approved courses.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  7. \n

    TA must be approved in ArmyIgnitED<\/a> 5 days prior to the start of the term. This is a hard deadline, and if it is missed the student will not receive funding. However, the deadline for fall term is different. The Army sets a deadline 2-3 weeks prior to the term start date for fall terms due to the end of their fiscal year. This year\u2019s deadline for fall enrollments is September 10th.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    It is now possible to use tuition assistance and G.I. Bill benefits<\/a> for the same courses. If you wish to use G.I. Bill benefits as well, submit your Certificate of Eligibility<\/a>\u00a0to veterans@wou.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
