If you are on Active Duty, a Reservist, or a National Guardsman and have upcoming mandatory training (drill), special details, or deployments, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.wou.edu\/nora\/policy.entry.view_policy?ppolicyid=1051\">Military Absence Policy <\/a>was created for you. No refund is available for course work in which a student has received academic credit, or from courses not dropped\/withdrawn. After the deadline to drop\/withdrawal, the student must make a written request to the Office of the Registrar via this <strong>fillable Academic Petition<\/strong>. Documentation of military orders is required. Here is the policy.<\/li>\n<li>A student voluntarily enlisting in military service must drop\/withdraw according to<a href=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/registrar\/paperless-registration-students\/\"> registration procedures and deadlines<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>If you are involuntarily activated or deployed, cannot attend classes because of something unexpected (such as a death in the family or personal illness) please email your documentation to <a href=\"mailto:registrar@wou.edu\">registrar@wou.edu<\/a> or bring proof (doctor\u2019s letter, hospital records, orders, etc.) to the Registrar\u2019s office (Welcome Center 145) to discuss options for dropping\/withdrawing you from your courses.<\/li>\n<li>Please keep in mind that if you\u2019re receiving G.I.\u00a0Bill\u00ae\u00a0benefits or educational benefits from the VA that <strong>you are also responsible<\/strong> for ensuring that they are aware of your situation as well. I strongly recommend you reach out to confirm you are on the Registrar Office&#8217;s list for this benefit (contact below). Roe, M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020<\/a>, adds new requirements for educational institutions participating in the educational assistance programs of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). These new provisions became effective June 15, 2021 and apply to Institutions of Higher Learning and Non-College Degree institutions beginning August 1, 2021. _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; menu_font_size=&#8221;15px&#8221; background_color=&#8221;#f5f5f5&#8243; custom_padding=&#8221;0px|||||&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/et_pb_menu][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WOU Military Related Policies Military Absence&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":417,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"splash-page.php","meta":{"_seopress_robots_primary_cat":"","_seopress_titles_title":"%%post_title%% | %%sitetitle%%","_seopress_titles_desc":"","_seopress_robots_index":"","_lmt_disableupdate":"no","_lmt_disable":"","_et_pb_use_builder":"on","_et_pb_old_content":"<h1><a href=\"http:\/\/benefits.va.gov\/gibill\/post911_residentraterequirements.asp\"><span>Section 702 of the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014 (\u201cChoice Act\u201d)<\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n<span>Effective date\u00a0July 1, 2015.<\/span>\n<ul>\n \t<li><span>Public Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs) must offer in-state tuition and fees to all covered individuals with Post-9\/11 GI <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bill\u00ae<\/span> and Montgomery GI <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bill\u00ae<\/span> - Active Duty (MGIB - AD) benefits<\/span><\/li>\n \t<li><span>The in-state tuition provisions in Section 702 do not apply to those on active duty or to students using transferred Post-9\/11 GI <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bill\u00ae<\/span> benefits from a Servicemember still on active duty.<\/span><\/li>\n \t<li>A Veteran who lives in the state where the\u00a0IHL is located (regardless of his\/her formal state of residence) and enrolls in the school within three years of discharge from a period of active duty service of 90 days or more.<\/li>\n \t<li>An individual using transferred benefits who lives in the state in\u00a0where the\u00a0IHL is located (regardless of his\/her formal state of residence) and enrolls in the school within\u00a0three years of the transferor\u2019s discharge from a period of active duty service of 90 days or more.<\/li>\n \t<li>An individual using benefits under the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship who lives in the state in\u00a0where the\u00a0IHL is located (regardless of his\/her formal state of residence) and enrolls in the school within three years of the Servicemember\u2019s death in the line of duty following a period of active duty service of 90 days or more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1><a href=\"https:\/\/olis.leg.state.or.us\/liz\/2015R1\/Downloads\/MeasureDocument\/HB2645\">House Bill 2645<\/a><\/h1>\nEffective date January 1, 2016.\n<ul>\n \t<li>Requires public universities to establish priority enrollment system for qualified students who are active members of Armed Forces of the United States, who are qualified veterans or who receive veterans' educational benefits as federally qualified dependents of active members or qualified veterans.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">DEPLOYMENT AND UNEXPECTED WITHDRAWAL<\/span><\/h1>\n<h5 class=\"sub_head_1\">What if I get deployed or am already deployed and need to withdraw from courses unexpectedly?<\/h5>\n<h5 class=\"sub_head_1\">What if I cannot attend classes due to an illness or unexpected situation?<\/h5>\nThe Western Oregon University refund policy generally provides for full refund of dropped or withdrawn courses resulting from being called to active duty in military service. No refund is available for course work in which a student has received academic credit, or from courses not dropped\/withdrawn. For a full refund, the student must make a written request to the Office of the Registrar. Documentation of military orders is required.\n\nA student voluntarily enlisting in military service must drop\/withdraw according to existing academic policy, procedures, and deadlines.\n\nIf you are involuntarily activated or deployed, cannot attend classes because of something unexpected (such as a death in the family or personal illness) please bring proof (doctor\u2019s letter, hospital records, etc.) to the Registrar\u2019s office (Administration Building Room 106) to discuss options for dropping\/withdrawing you from your courses.\n\nPlease keep in mind that if you\u2019re receiving G.I. <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bill\u00ae<\/span> benefits or educational benefits from the VA that you are also responsible for ensuring that they are aware of your situation as well.
