{"id":285,"date":"2014-09-05T18:17:26","date_gmt":"2014-09-05T18:17:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wou.edu\/wp\/veterans\/?page_id=285"},"modified":"2024-10-29T09:00:30","modified_gmt":"2024-10-29T16:00:30","slug":"veterans-united-foundation-scholarship","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wou.edu\/veterans\/veterans-united-foundation-scholarship\/","title":{"rendered":"Veterans United Foundation Scholarship"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"color: #636363;\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"color: #636363;\">Veterans United Foundation, formed and fully funded by Veterans United Home Loans and its employees, strives to enhance lives by recognizing the selfless contributions of service members and their families through support of such individuals in need.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #636363;\">Despite the aid of benefits like the GI <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bill\u00ae<\/span>, the ever-increasing expense of a post-secondary degree is one of the greatest challenges facing so many of our nation\u2019s finest, and in an effort to address this need, Veterans United Foundation has established the Veterans United Foundation Scholarship program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #636363;\">The program\u2019s primary goal is to assist military service members and their families by awarding<em>\u00a0up to\u00a0<\/em>twenty bi-annual $2,000 scholarships to help pay for tuition and books.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"color: #636363;\"><strong>Scholarship Eligibility<\/strong><\/h4>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>To be considered, the scholarship applicant must fall\u0003 into at least one of the following categories:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00b7 \u00a0 \u00a0A current active-duty service member<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00b7 \u00a0 \u00a0Veteran of the United States Armed Forces<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00b7 \u00a0 \u00a0Spouse of a service member or veteran<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00b7 \u00a0 \u00a0Surviving spouse or child of a fallen service member<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00b7 \u00a0 \u00a0Child of a service member or veteran.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Applicants must also currently be \u0003pursuing a post-secondary degree (associates, bachelors, masters or doctorate) \u0003at an accredited college or university, OR plan to attend a college \u0003or university the following academic year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>In addition, applicants must display financial need and maintain a cumulative 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.\u00a0The Veterans United Foundation Scholarship can only be used toward school-related expenses (tuition and books).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #636363;\">How to Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #636363;\">The scholarship application link will be made available at\u00a0<a style=\"color: #2b4d65;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.enhancelives.com\/scholarships\">www.enhancelives.com\/scholarships<\/a>\u00a0<strong>only\u00a0<\/strong>during the spring and fall submission periods.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #636363;\">The Veterans United Foundation Scholarship application includes these elements:<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #636363;\">1. The\u00a0Online Application\u00a0form, made available on the given Key Dates<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #636363;\">2. Within the application, applicants will submit a single\u00a0Essay\u00a0in response to one of three prompts given within the scholarship application. Essays must meet\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">all<\/span>\u00a0of the following criteria (essays failing to meet ALL criteria will NOT be considered):<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #636363;\">\u00a0\u00b7 Essay MUST be 750 words\u00a0<strong>or<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>less<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #636363;\">\u00a0\u00b7 Essay must be submitted as a Word or rich text (.docx, .doc, or .rtf) document format into the upload box that is included\u00a0<strong>within<\/strong>\u00a0the online application<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #636363;\">*Please note that\u00a0<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">NO<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0confirmation email will be sent from the Veterans United Foundation Scholarship Program upon receiving your application and essay submission.
