This quick start guide is for the supervisors working with WOU students in the undergraduate and graduate teacher licensure programs.<\/p>\n

Term 1 Overview<\/h3>\n

Required student teaching hours:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n
• Undergraduate, elementary:\u00a02 \u00bd\u00a0days per week.<\/li>\n
• Undergraduate, secondary: 20 hours per week.<\/li>\n
• Graduate, elementary: 4 hours per day.<\/li>\n
• Graduate, secondary: 4 hours per day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

  In the first four weeks of the term, the teacher candidate should spend approximately one and a half days per week in the classroom and one day per week observing in a total of four diverse settings. Examples of diverse settings include Title I, ESOL, Special Education, observing a counselor, and shadowing a specialist teacher (e.g. music, physical education, technology, art).<\/p>\n

  During the remaining weeks of the term, the teacher candidate will spend all their time in the classroom.<\/p>\n

  There will be one week in the third month of the term when the teacher candidate will be in your classroom full-time. During this week, the teacher candidate will p<\/span>lan, teach, and assess a whole group lesson(s), as assigned by cohort leaders.<\/span><\/p>\n

  Term 1 General Responsibilities<\/h3>\n

  \n
  • Encourage your teacher candidate to attend faculty meetings and participate in Professional Learning Community (“PLC”) meetings when possible.<\/li>\n
  • Build relationships with school partners (e.g. say \u201chello\u201d to the school principal when you\u2019re on site).<\/li>\n
  • Submit travel logs each month.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Term 1 To Do’s<\/h3>\n

    \n
    1. \n

       Schedule a start-of-term meeting with your teacher candidate and clinical teacher to orient them to term 1 requirements. During the meeting, you should:<\/p>\n

       \n
       • Exchange contact information.<\/li>\n
       • Go over the term 1 quick start guide for each role to make sure you all understand what\u2019s expected.<\/li>\n
       • Verify the clinical teacher received the link for Canvas.<\/li>\n
       • Show where to find forms in Canvas.<\/span><\/li>\n
       • Review clinical observation feedback form process and requirements.<\/li>\n
       • Review the\u00a0Educator Readiness Scale<\/span>\u00a0process and requirements.<\/li>\n
       • Remind the clinical teacher about the clinical teacher training, which should be completed within the first four weeks of the term.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
       • \n

         Complete two formal observations of your teacher candidate. As part of this, you should:<\/p>\n

         \n
         • Coordinate with your teacher candidate to schedule a formal observation of one lesson during weeks 3-4 and one full-time week.<\/span><\/li>\n
         • Review and provide feedback on the teacher candidate’s lesson plans, which the teacher candidate will submit in Canvas, and email, at least five business days prior to the lesson.<\/li>\n
         • Complete a clinical observation feedback form in Canvas for the lesson you observed.<\/li>\n
         • Lesson feedback should be sent to your teacher candidate and clinical teacher so everyone is on the same page.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
         • \n

           Complete the Educator Readiness Scale (ERS)<\/span> form. As part of this, you should:<\/p>\n

           \n
           • Schedule and lead the consensus meeting with the teacher candidate and cooperating teacher to discuss everyone\u2019s scores on the Educator Readiness Scale<\/span> and to come to a consensus score.<\/li>\n
           • Fill out your Educator Readiness Scale<\/span> form prior to the consensus meeting.<\/li>\n
           • Submit Educator Readiness Scale<\/span> consensus sheet scores in Canvas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
           • \n

             Meet with the clinical teacher to discuss their experiences from the term. Collect the teacher candidate’s and clinical teacher’s ERS ratings before the consensus meeting and add ratings to the consensus form.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

             Submit final grades.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

During these weeks, they will teach a 7-10-day unit of instruction and complete WOUTPA tasks (literacy instruction for elementary candidates and content area instruction for secondary candidates).<\/p>\n

               • Encourage your teacher candidate to participate in professional activities in the school community (e.g. faculty meetings, staff development days, PLC meetings, and student conferences).<\/li>\n
               • Continue to build relationships with school partners.<\/li>\n

                 Term 2 To Do’s<\/h3>\n

                          During the third term, the teacher candidate will complete the required student teaching experience. They will be at the school full-time for 10 weeks.<\/p>\n

                          There will be three weeks around the middle of the term when the teacher candidate will teach a 3-week unit of instruction.<\/p>\n

                          Term 3 General Responsibilities<\/h3>\n

                          • Encourage your teacher candidate to participate in professional activities in the school community (e.g. faculty meetings, staff development days, PLC meetings, and student conferences).<\/li>\n

                                 • Fill-out your Educator Readiness Scale<\/span> form in Canvas prior to the consensus meeting.<\/li>\n
                                 • Submit Educator Readiness Scale<\/span> consensus sheet scores in Canvas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

                                   Meet with the clinical teacher to discuss their experiences from the term.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

                                   Complete a letter of recommendation, or serve as a reference,<\/span> for your teacher candidate if merited by their performance and disposition.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
